Text collates: [8], xliv, [2], 607, [1], 52; [8], xxviii, 560, 54; [4], vi, 694; vii, [1] ,464, [76] pp., final volume without the ad leaf reported in some copies at front. Uniformly bound in full period calf, some spine labels wanting. ************* FIRST EDITION OF THIS impressive History of Rome which required over 30 years to complete, and the final two volumes were printed after Hooke's death. – Engraved bookplate of Ham Court to pastedowns, endpapers with later 20th c. bookplate of David Shechner.
Condition
One board detached and other boards holding by cords with hinges cracked, leather with wear/chips/scuffs. Contents quite clean with only some occasional light foxing.
