Description
1700s Colored French Map, Lotharingia Ducatus, Lorraine. This hand-colored, copper engraved map was made by Matthäus Merian der Ältere in the 18th century. M. Merian was a Swiss-born engraver who worked mostly in Frankfurt. This map seems to depict the region of Lorraine, France, save in the bottom right corner, which depicts Saarland, a German state that borders France. The map is enclosed in a gold gilt frame. A great gift for a history buff.
Dimensions are 15.5 in h x 19.75 in w x .5 in d. Condition is very good. There is minor wear, discoloration, and gilt loss to the frame. Please call or email for a detailed condition report.
