Description
This antique rush seat chair has turned faux bamboo stiles, with a windsor type back. All is lifted on a pair of bottom rail supports, presumably added later, along with the front foot rest. The rush seat may also be of a later period. I believe bottom support rails were made to add more stability to what originally must have been a dangerous chair for an active kid. I'm dating most of this chair to circa late 18th/early 19thC, based on design and original wood patina. Notice the amount of wear to the arms and back top. This one is unusual and just primitive enough to count as American folk art. From the Ledlie Laughlin estate.
