An Applique Textile Thangka of Ushnishavijaya
Tibet, Antique
29 in x 18 1/2 in; with Silk Brocade 33 in x 29 in
The eight armed divinity is seated in dyanasana on a beaded lotus throne with his primary hands in dhyana and bhumisparasa mudras; his secondary left hand in vitarka mudras, and the remaining arms poised gracefully around him. He is wearing a long dhoti with finely incised foliate, embedded festoon suspended from his waist, sash across his shoulders and chest, and pearl necklaces and earrings. He has three heads, two with a benevolent expression, the left with a menacing face, crown and surrounded by a leaf shaped finial.
