Description
Staffordshire Wild Rose Platter Blue and White Transferware. This platter is completely unmarked with the Wild Rose pattern in dark blue and a scene of Nuneham Park or "Nuneham Courtenay of Oxfordshire, the Seat of the Earl Harcourt". The picture is based off an engraving by W. Cook, after a drawing by S. Owen that was first published in 1811. The pottery has a cream colored tone beneath a dark blue. The piece measures 17.5" x 15" with a scalloped edge and a 2" dip in the dish. It is in remarkable condition with no breaks or chips, other than the original flaws from production, a characteristic used to authenticate and date early pieces.
