Title: Hexagon Log Cabin Comforter (tied), 62" x 74" 1860-1880s, found in Indiana; signed in ink on cotton chintz-look back "Marie Howard." Strips of woven and printed fine dress wools are hand pieced onto a foundation, 37 strips per block. Red-orange wool block centers have purple or yellow wool ties, and the edges are faced and blind-stitched. Backing fabric is a copy of a floral chintz design, in plain madder print cotton. One small area of damage on back (shown). Visually interesting, excellent composition.
