Description
**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE; Valley of Mexico, Tlatilco culture, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE; Valley of Mexico, Aztec Empire, ca. 1400 to 1521 CE. A great collection of 7 ancient Mexican pottery figures! The largest is a flattened Colima figure, with applied ornaments and headdress, the female form emphasized by curvy hips. The next is a mold made Aztec terracotta figure with naturalistic features, jewelry, and waist cloth. The other Colima figurine is seated with a conical head and piercings through the earlobes. The Jalisco vessel is in the form of an anthropomorphic seated "cargador" (literally "carrier") figure with nubbin feet, a globular body, and rim opening behind his head. The Tlatilco figure has an opening on her head, and the other Jalisco figure is crawling on all fours. The last is a Colima dog or human hybrid standing on all fours like a canine, with a spiny ridge back, short, upturned tail, but the head is human. Size (largest figure): 7.5" L x 3.75" W (19 cm x 9.5 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
