Description
A Swiss or German Hanau four-colour gold minaudière, A Swiss or German Hanau four-colour gold minaudière, c.1820, with a later Russian standard mark 1908-1917, a later lift-out minaudière insert, hand engraved 'Fairbanks', of rectangular cushion form with a central oval raised panel of rose, yellow and white chrysanthemums, with green gold leaves and a galleried border, giardinetti and flower heads to a textured ground, repeated on the sides, with a pair of lions at either side of a central giardinetti to the base, with foliage, snakes or serpents, and a foliate border, a later mirror fitted to the inside of the lid, damaged, with the minaudière insert, one section deficient, later Russian standard mark to the lid 1908/1917, tested as approximately 14ct gold, 265.83g excluding the mirror, 91 x 64 x 22mm approximately Provenance: Given to Douglas Fairbanks Sr and Mary Pickford.
