Antonio Nicolo Gasparo Jacobsen
New York, New Jersey, Denmark, 1850-1921
Depicts a large steamship flying a United States Yacht Ensign flag. Jacobsen studied at the Royal Academy of Design in Copenhagen before leaving for the United States to avoid military enlistment. Jacobsen arrived in New York where he got his first job decorating safes for the Marvin Safe Company which lead to him being commissioned to paint ships by owners and companies such as the The Fall River Line and The White Star Line. His works are part of collections at the Peabody Essex museum, the Newark Museum, The Mariners' Museum, the USS Constitution Museum, among many others.

Areas of paint chips and losses throughout, frame with light surface wear, as-is, please refer to photographs. After running the painting under black light, areas of inpainting were visible throughout the sky portion of the painting with one to two areas on the body of the ship. The areas with heaviest inpainting are around the corners and outlining the ship.
