James Ellsworth De Kay was an American zoologist, who studied medicine, and then moved to New York to begin his work in Natural History. DeKays book Natural History of New York is the first of his multipart volume of the Natural History of New York. It is a beautiful work on the Mammalia of New York focusing on the reptiles and amphibia and fishes. DeKay includes information on turtles, snakes, skinks, frogs, salamanders, perch, bass, swallow, sea scorpion, mackerel, anglers, catfish, and much more.
