Description
This is an excellent Great Northern Railroad #4 switch lantern--an Adlake Non-Sweating lantern. "GN No 4" is clearly marked on the side of the lamtern's chimney. This lantern was rescued from the depths. It was in bad shape, but due to its rarity and value, a period correct restoration was undertaken. Many photos were taken of the interior and exterior as it came to the owner. It had more rust than paint! The black paint was an easy match when doing the respray. The lantern spent time in a lye tank to remove old paint, and then an electrolysis tank to remove the rust. It was then prepped for paint. Gaskets and/or rings were all refreshed around the four original lenses, which are 5 3/8" size and include 2 green and 2 amber. The correct fount, original to the lantern, is still present, and Adlake shows clearly on the fount. A replacement burner was sourced as the old one was too far gone to save. This lantern could be the prize of your collection. Very few of these remain. The GN was a very popular railroad that ran from Minneapolis, MN to Seattle, WA.
