Description
Anastas Jovanovic received his first drawing lessons from A. Berman as a student of the State Printing House in Belgrade. As a scholarship holder of Prince Miloš, he went to Vienna, where he studied at the drawing school at the Academy from 1838. From 1840 he studied the lithographic craft. He is the first Serbian photographer. He returned to Serbia in 1858. He stayed in Paris twice. He painted portraits in various techniques. He worked on religious, historical and genre compositions. This lot has a reserve. It is no framed and measures 85cm X 61cm. Was purchased by a a Romanian art collector right after the end of the WW2 when people were selling their art collection in order to survive. It has stayed with a family since then and now they decided to sell it. The current owner is an art connoisseur and we worked together to determine the authenticity and found out that there is a another similar piece in Dubrovnik owned by a private collector. This lot has a reserve.
