the group attributed by the owner to an unidentified trooper named Frazier in the 12th Virginia Cavalry with the material as follows: a pair of gold-tone epaulettes with heavily gilt bullion tassels (3 x 7 in.) (fabric separation to the underside of one epaulette); tin cup and drum canteen with screw top (8 in.) (light rust to surfaces); a folding "housewife" sewing and repair kit retaining two needles and two pins, this said to have been used to illustrate a September 1992 Civil War poster featuring Antietam (4 x 3.25 in. folded) (normal wear from use).
Three Fraziers appear in the roster of the 12th Virginia: William C., Co. B, Sgt., surrenders at Appomattox; James, Co. D, Pvt., dies August 1863; George B., Pvt., no returns after August 1864.
