Description
A SPANISH COLONIAL PAINTING, "Virgen de Guadalupe," SOUTHERN CUSCO SCHOOL, PROBABLY BOLIVIAN, 18TH CENTURY, gilt and oil on canvas, crowned as the Queen of Heaven with a burgundy veil, her silver ground dress is jeweled with faceted and cabochon deep green emeralds, red rubies, lime peridots, teal aquamarines, yellow citrines laid in geometric rows of glistening pearls, centering a large amethyst orb with pyramidal stair forms and cross, above a crescent and fish, surrounded by angelic figures spreading a flower garland before an opening curtain, 35 1/2" x 28 1/2", framed, 39" x 31 1/2".
Condition
Laid to old canvas and on new stretchers, darkened surface, craquelure, horizontal buckle near center, textured surface, inpainting, old repairs, and overall in good condition.
