Carl Jung Signed 1959 Photo

JUNG, CARL GUSTAV. Photograph Signed, "C.G. Jung", at lower right corner of image, 7.25" x 8.75" (visible), Zurich, October 22, 1959. Black and white photograph is housed behind glass in a matte black, gilt bordered frame measuring 8.25" x 9.75". Frame has some chipped paintwork, intact hanging wire, and framer's label at verso. Photograph not examined out of frame, but appears to be in very good condition.

This lovely photograph captures Jung listening attentively to Hugh Burnett, as both are seated at a tea table by a window in Jung's home. On this day, Jung was interviewed by John Freeman for BBC's "Face to Face". During this rare interview, Jung spoke about his friendship with Sigmund Freud, his belief in God, his thoughts on death, and his own self-analysis.

Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) was a Swiss psychologist and psychiatrist who founded analytic psychology, in some aspects a response to Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis. Jung proposed and developed the concepts of the extraverted and the introverted personality, archetypes, and the collective unconscious. His work has been influential in psychiatry and in the study of religion, literature, and related fields. Jung was also an artist, craftsman, builder and a prolific writer. Many of his works were not published until after his death, and some are still awaiting publication.

Hugh Burnett (1924-2011) was a British television producer who created the groundbreaking television interview series "Face to Face", which ran on the BBC from 1959 to 1962.
