- This hand-painted egg is adorned with a high-polished enamel with golden trim. The egg opens on a hinge and closes shut with a magnet, to keep the box securely shut.

The Original Egg History:
The Mosaic egg is a jeweled enameled Easter egg made under the supervision of the Russian jeweler Peter Carl Faberge in 1914. The egg was made for Nicholas II of Russia, who presented it to his wife, the Empress Alexandra Feodorovna on Easter 1914. It's Easter 1914 counterpart (presented to the Dowager Empress) is the Catherine the Great Egg.
