An unusual Chippendale mahogany 1 drawer work table with flip top. The table with narrow square legs with chamfered edge leading to brass casters. The 2 small rosette type brass pulls are loose from drawer and others are missing on the faux drawer on reverse side and from the pullout ears that support the top leaves when opened. Some losses to he apron edge molding with some pieces in the drawer, as well as the cross stretchers which are broken and loose from legs (may be some losses there as well) - see photos for further details. Mid to late 18th century. 15 1/4"W x 19 3/4"D x 28 1/4"H. Provenance: This item was handed down to consignor's wife from either the Stotesbury family of Philadelphia - builder and part owner of JP Morgan in the 19th/20th century, or the Minturn families of NY - the consignor's wife's great great uncle was Col. Robert Shaw (the film "Glory") and her great great grandmother was Susanna Shaw Minturn (1839 - 1926) who gifted the land to NY that became part of Central Park. The Minturn family also owned the clipper ship "The Flying Cloud" and were leading merchants in NY City in the 19th/20th centuries.
