Description
Chest of drawers; Charles IV, circa 1800.
Wood.
Slight flaws in the veneer.
No key. One of the handles is missing.
Measurements: 86 x 120 x 53 cm.
Chest of drawers of Carlos IV style and period, dated in the last years of the 18th century, beginning of the 19th century. It has a classic and refined structure, visually lightened through the truncated cone-shaped legs, unornamented as befits a language that values the expression of simple geometry and structural clarity. Specifically, the Charles IV chest of drawers will have certain main characteristics that will be repeated in almost all the examples: simple drawers decorated with marquetry, wooden top with motifs worked in the same technique, matching the rest of the furniture; silver or light metal fittings, absence of metal applications in relief, metoped frieze at the waist, importance of geometry at a structural and ornamental level and, finally, the combination of geometric compositions with the search for contrast by combining light and dark woods.
