Note:
The moniker 'M.A. Norris' is attributed to Mary Ann Norris, wife of cabinet maker and upholsterer James Norris. James Norris headed the firm Mason & Norris alongside his partner Henry John Mason, and later his partner's widow Sarah Mason, until their respective deaths in 1839 and 1840. Mary Ann succeeded her husband at the helm of the business, using the trade label exhibited on the present lot. The Norris' sons, James, cabinet maker, and Samuel, upholsterer, ultimately carried on the family business.
