Description
After: Alexander Calder (AMERICAN, 1898–1976) Limited Edition Maguey Jute Fiber Woven Rug/Tapestry "Balloons". This rug/tapestry design may possibly have been a contribution by Calder for the 1972 Nicaragua and Guatamala earthquake fund. A group of artists formed a relief fund, and each artist contributed art, the pieces were made by local craftsmen in a limited edition of 100. The art was sold, and the money used for the earthquake victims. Calder drew 14 designs for a rug or tapestry and a limited edition of each was made by weavers in Guatamala from local fibers. We have no documentation to support this theory and make no guarantees, however it resembles other pieces we have found from this collection. Signed with initials, dated 74 and numbered 21/100. The piece is in good condition. Measures 88" x 67". Third party shipping or free local pick-up within 60 days of end of sale. Please review our terms.
