Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Inuit, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A wooden fishing reel or hand line made from wood and vegetal fiber cords. The frame is constructed from two thick panels connected with wooden pegs inserted at both ends. The fishing line is made from twisted strands, relatively thick compared to modern filament wire, but perfect for larger fish. The cord is simply wrapped around the frame. Handheld lines were often used for ice fishing. This example is in good condition, with signs of use. Size: 7" L x 1" W (17.8 cm x 2.5 cm)
