Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A fine pair of matching, hand-built pottery figures, each shown standing atop delineated legs. Both adorned in ochre and white pigment, the figures present with incised striations across both legs and both shoulders as well as holding both arms atop their chests. The first figure wears a belt fringed with four tooth-shaped ornaments, and the taller figure dons only a simple loincloth around their waist. Above the lozenge-form necklace ornaments are bulbous heads with incised eyes, protruding noses with septum ornaments, and slender mouths. Each head is topped with a cross-banded cap. A fascinating set of figures from the ancient Colima! Size of largest (without fringed belt): 3.125" W x 4.9" H (7.9 cm x 12.4 cm); 5.625" H (14.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Taller figure has repair to proper left leg at top of thigh, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines; second figure is intact and very good. Both figures have light abrasions and encrustations, fading to pigment, and softening to some finer details. Great preservation to ochre and white pigments throughout.
