A wonderful composition by Japanese artist Reiji Kimura who was best known for his expressionist compositions that play with geometry and the concept of a grid as well as dramatic uses of color like this example which is cleverly entitled "Play Ground." Born in Tokyo in 1926, Reiji Kimura attended Chiba University. Following his graduation in 1948, Kimura became a drawing teacher. In 1953 and 1954, Kimura participated in Nika Hall for both painting and sculpture. He relocated to New York in 1956 and has lived there ever since. Kimura has had numerous solo exhibitions in New York as well as Honolulu. He is known for his abstract style as well as his technique of mixing oil and metallic paints on canvas as well as wood or paper.

Artwork has not been examined outside the frame. It appears to show some waviness, staining, and toning. The piece is hand-signed and dated in pencil at the lower right. The title and edition number 1/10 are handwritten in pencil on the lower left. There are exhibition labels on the verso, including one from Galerie Couturier of Stamford, Connecticut. Normal age wear to the frame as shown. Glass is intact, and the frame is fitted with a suspension wire for display.
