2nd-3rd century AD. A silver lunar pendant with tapering round-section body and broad suspension loop. 1.73 grams, 20mm wide (3/4"). North American collection, 1990s-2000s. Property of a Surrey gentleman. A lunar pendant was worn by girls in ancient Rome as an apotropaic amulet to protect them against evil forces. The equivalent pendant for boys was the bulla. [No Reserve]
