Umberto Boccioni (Reggio de Calabria, October 19, 1882 - Sorte, Verona, August 16, 1916) was an Italian painter and sculptor, theorist and main exponent of the Futurist movement. After his arrival in Milan and his meeting with the Divisionists and with Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, he wrote, together with Carlo Carrà , Luigi Russolo, Giacomo Balla and Gino Severini, the Manifesto of Futurist Painters (1910), which was followed by the Manifesto of the movement Futuristic (1910). According to these manifestos, the modern artist had to free himself from the figurative models and traditions of the past, to focus solely on the contemporary, dynamic and continually evolving world. As artistic themes they proposed the city, cars and the chaotic daily reality.
