Description
Andrew Gregg Curtin was a lawyer and politician who served as Pennsylvania’s governor during the Civil War. Curtin boldly signed this document in ink, which granted the bearer, a minister, access to the capitol to care for an ill person. Curtin would play a key role in helping defend Pennsylvania from Lee and the Confederate Army just a few months later at the same place the recipient of the pass, Rev. William Gerhardt, received his education: Gettysburg, home of the Lutheran Seminary where Gerhardt studied. Pass is in excellent condition; the Curtis signature is bold and clear.
