Wesselmann began painting a series of nude pictures, in which he incorporated American themes and colors. His work received increasing attention and wound up included in the New Realists exhibition at the Sidney Janis Gallery in 1962! This helped launch the careers of Wesselmann, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and other American artists. Wesselmann routinely worked narrowing his focus from a complete form to just one aspect of the form, like a mouth. During the 1990s, Wesselmann painted nudes on canvas, but with a different, more portrait artistry approach. Wesselan died in 2004. Provenance: Private collector.
