First appearance of the Western iteration of Ghost Rider, whose stories typically featured themes of supernatural horror. After Magazine Enterprises' copyright lapsed, Marvel swiped the character's name and look in 1967, abandoning the horror elements. Marvel eventually renamed the character "Phantom Rider" to avoid confusion with the company's skull-headed supernatural motorbiker.
