East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A fine pair of archer rings carved from colorful jadeite and nephrite. The first ring is carved from creamy white nephrite with warm pale brown inclusions and features a lightly incised surface depicting a bird and a feline -perhaps a lion - standing amongst foliage. The other ring is jadeite in mottled sage-green colors with brown and citrine inclusions, all engraved with a fine floral motif. Such rings were worn by archers on their index fingers for protection when shooting an arrow from a bow. Size (jadeite ring): 1.1" L x 1.25" Diameter (2.8 cm x 3.2 cm); (nephrite ring): 0.75" L x 1.125" Diameter (1.9 cm x 2.9 cm)
