Presenting perfectly with matching trousers with the traditional 13-button broadfall front opening and lace up back, also signed in full to the inside waistband, Glenn McDuffie GM. Letters of Authenticity by James Spence Authentication (JSA) and Todd Mueller Autographs. Provenance, notarized affidavit from Glenn McDuffie dated October 5, 2009.It was Tuesday noon August 14, 1945 when Radio Tokyo broadcasted a statement by Emperor Hirohito. President Harry S. Truman just announced the end of the war, four years after the United States had entered. The day was called ?Victory over Japan Day.? Times Square was crowded with people celebrating. Alfred Eisenstaedt, a commissioned photographer for LIFE Magazine, was walking in the crowd looking for the perfect moment to capture. And that's exactly what he found at 5:51 pm. I saw a sailor running along the street grabbing any and every girl in sight I was running ahead of him with my Leica looking back over my shoulder but none of the pictures that were possible pleased me. Then suddenly in a flash, I saw something white being grabbed. I turned around and clicked the moment the sailor kissed the nurse. If she had been dressed in a dark dress, I would never have taken the picture. If the sailor had worn a white uniform, the same. I took exactly four pictures. It was done within a few seconds. -Alfred Eisenstaedt. Over the years a number of men have come forward as the kissing sailor and because Eisenstaedt, who died in 1995, didn't identify the subjects of his photo, LIFE's editorial director Robert Sullivan said the identities will officially remain a mystery. However, in 2007, Houston Police Department forensic artist Lois Gibson, who the Guinness Book of World Records says has helped police identify more suspects than any other forensic artist ever, took up the challenge of confirming McDuffie's claim. For this investigation, she had McDuffie pose for new photographs in his uniform, recreating the famous pose with a pillow instead of a nurse. She measured his ears, facial bones, hairline, wrist, knuckles, and hand and compared those to enlargements of Eisenstaedt's picture. Gibson concluded that McDuffie is the man in Alfred Eisenstaedt's Aug. 14, 1945 image. She also compared the other men to the photograph. All other people who have come forward I have eliminated based on their facial bones, she said. To me that's definitive. Everything is consistent. I'm as positive as you can be.
