Description

For your consideration is this 1930 printing of the 1914 story of "Through the Grand Canyon from Wyoming to Mexico" by Ellsworth Kolb. This book has an inscription on the inside reading, "To Ernest E. Beauvois with best wishes of yours very truly Emery C Kolb and Ellsworth L Kolb November 26, 1931, Grand Canyon Arizona". During the fall and winter of 1911–12, the brothers Ellsworth and Emery Kolb rowed down the Green and Colorado Rivers through the Grand Canyon. Amazingly, they brought a (then new technology) motion-picture camera along for the ride and became the first to record the Grand Canyon on film. The resulting movie was shown at the Grand Canyon for some sixty years after, and Ellsworth Kolb wrote an account of the adventure in "Through the Grand Canyon from Wyoming to Mexico" in 1914. This new edition contains the original text and photographs, and additional photographs, appearing as they did in the first edition of the book. The story tells how the Kolb brothers persevered through multiple mishaps and fickle weather during their remarkable journey. Their story is one of the classic adventure tales of the American West. The book is in very good condition, measuring 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 1 1/2".
