Description
We offer for your consideration this RARE Art Deco American Flag Bailey Banks Biddle Ruby Diamond Sapphire Platinum Pin.
An almost identical pin sold at Christie’s for $80,000 that was signed by Cartier… (Please note that Oscar Heyman probably made this piece for Cartier AND for Baily Banks as they are well known to have made jewelery for both firms and are well known for their flag pins. A quick internet search will affirm this). This piece is signed by Bailey Banks & Biddle and was made for a Mrs. Minnie Farrow, the wife of Mr. Walter M. Farrow in 1940. We have obtained provenance from the museum and have a copy of the original paperwork that is included in the auction as well… We think that the same artist for Cartier (Heyman) also made this pin as it is almost the exact design, and all the cuts of the natural rubies and sapphires are identical. Check it out on the Christie’s site. We feel this one is superior as it has a pearl accent and rope twisting around the flagpole. The numbers on the original paperwork (71892) match the numbers marked on the pin…Constructed of platinum, it has 141 diamonds, 102 rubies, 20 sapphires, and 1 pearl – all natural high quality stones. Truly an amazing piece! rnrnrn• Type of Jewelry: Flag Brooch rnrn• Gem Stones: Natural Diamonds, Sapphires, Rubies and One Pearl rnrn• Mounting metal: Platinum rnrn• Approx.
