Description
Tortoise Shell and Bone Tea Caddy, 19th c., of oval octagonal form, the domed segmented lid with a central mother-of-pearl medallion, over octagonal curved sides, on bone paw feet, the interior with two lidded foil lined tea boxes, H.- 4 1/2 in., W.- 6 1/4 in., D.- 4 1/2 in. Provenance: The Collection of Ronald Ralpheal Levert, proprietor of Goudeau Antiques, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Condition
All shell and bone elements are intact. One ¼ inch chip with antique repair above each of the proper right side feet. Three areas at corners where small bits of shell have chipped and has been re-attached. ½ inch thin chip at bottom of front panel. Minimal scratches and miniscule chips around the base. 1-inch surface scratch towards the back of the lid. Interior tin has surface level corrosion. Underside is lined with canvas and beautifully painted rosettes. A handsome example.
