Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $200**

Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Inuit, ca. 19th to mid-20th century CE. This is a fine collection of 3 hand-made items of wood and whale or walrus bone. The largest is a vintage cedar fish effigy, with a slender, streamlined body and incised mouth. The wood is polished and has nice honey toned graining. The next is a wooden miniature dugout-style canoe or kayak carved from a red wood, complete with a bench seat. The last item is a harpoon, and the oldest, of the three, specifically made to use for hunting and fishing. The bone fore-shaft has a drilled perforation for mounting on a pole, and the hole through the center was for attaching a rope line. The slotted tip contains a sharpened bone blade for stabbing through flesh and blubber. Size of harpoon head: 4.5" L x 0.75" W (11.4 cm x 1.9 cm); wooden fish: 7.5" L x 0.5" W x 1.5" H (19 cm x 1.3 cm x 3.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-Komor Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, circa 1965
