Description
Bohemian lusterware porcelain: orange, white, blue opalescent glazes.
Antique Art Deco style Set of 7 pieces serveware: 4 plates / platters, 2 cups and a creamer, 1920s. The creamer and cups are eggshell translucent porcelain.
The plates are 8.1/2" long x c.7" [21.6cm x 17.8cm]; the bottom side of the plates is not glazed; the cups are c.2.1/4" high and 3.3/4" across [5.7cm x 9.5cm]; the creamer is 4" tall [12cm]; plates--a little surface wear, no chips, no cracks, no hairlines, very good condition.
[Note: it is difficult to show in photographs the rainbow color play of the Bohemian opalescent glaze]
The cups and plates have a mark of the Victoria Phoenix porcelain company, founded in 1876 by Carl Wiedemann. The creamer is marked "P.A.L.T. Czecho-Slovakia" [Porcelain Adolf Laufer, Teplitz]
In 1918 after WWI, Bohemia was taken from Germany and became a part of a new-created State of Czechoslovakia. Bohemia remained a cosmopolitan area and the home of many successful porcelain manufacturers.
