1st item: Scarce and large18th century French architectural engraving, on laid paper, depicting the ceiling in the Royal Apartments of the Palace of Versailles, as designed and painted by Charles Le Brun and J.B. Masse. Elevations of the entrances to the Salon de la Paix and Salon de la Guerre are depicted at each end. Titled "Developpement de la decoration interieure et des peintures du plafond de la Galerie de Versailles invente et peint par Ch Le Brun, et dessine par J.B. Masse" (Development of the interior decoration and ceiling paintings of the Galerie de Versailles invented and painted by Ch Le Brun, and designed by J.B. Masse). Engraved by Baillieul Laine, likely as part of the Cabinet du Roi engravings, reprinted at various dates during the 18th century and presented as gifts to visiting dignitaries. Matted with a taupe colored mat, unframed. Sight - 20 1/2" H x 36 1/2"W. Matted - 28 1/2" H x 44 1/2"W. 2nd item: Woodcut illustration titled A BIRD'S EYE VIEW OF THE PARIS EXHIBITION BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS NEAR THE EIFFEL TOWER, published as a supplement to The Illustrated London News, London, Thursday, May 16, 1889. Depicts an elevated view of the city of Paris, specifically the Eiffel Tower and the buildings and grounds where the Exposition Universelle occurred from May 6 to Oct 31, 1889. Housed and matted under plexiglass in a molded wooden frame. Image: 14" H x 21" W. Sight: 15" H x 22" W. Framed: 27" H x 34" W.
