Frame: 30 1/2" H x 42 3/8" W. Biography (Source: "Cappy: The Life and Art of C. Hjalmar Amundsen", by Terry Wallace): Casper "Cappy" Hjalmar Amundsen was born in New York City to the artist, Casper Emerson, Jr., and grew up learning drawing and painting in his father's studio. He attended the Blair Academy and the Grand Central School of Art. In 1932, Cappy, along with Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Beaufort Delaney and others, founded the Washington Square Outdoor Art Show. Amundsen later traveled via yawl along the eastern seaboard working as a commercial fisherman to support himself for. During this time, he developed skill as a painter and. Amundsen has operated under more than twenty pseudonyms, including Hjalmar, I. Emerson, Hjalmar Emerson Amundsen, C. Hjalmar Amundsen, J. J. Enwright, William Ward, Jr., F. H. McKay, W. Hughes, Sven Sagg, and many others. The multiple signatures were probably a marketing ploy to enable Amundsen to place different prices on his works, sometimes executed in differing styles, when displaying them in his usual outdoor/street art shows such as the Washing Square Art Show.
