Theophile-Louis Deyrolle (French, 1844-1923) oil on canvas painting depicting townspeople gathered for a festival, likely a Cider Festival. Signed lower left. Housed in a carved rococo style giltwood frame with carved centers and corners. Sight: 23" H x 38" W. Framed: 30" H x 38" W. Biography: French painter and illustrator Theophile-Louis Deyrolle was educated at L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts and was a student and studio assistant to William Bouguereau and Alexandre Cabanel. He co-founded an artist colony in Concarneau, and many of his paintings portray everyday life in Brittany. He also worked as a ceramicist to H.B. de Quimper, decorating plates and vases. Condition
Scattered craquelure, some flaking lower left quadrant with inpainting; repaired tear bottom edge, center with corresponding inpainting; some tiny flakes upper right quadrant near wagon wheel; some scattered inclusions, mostly in sky area. 1/4" scratch upper center, near frame. Scattered tiny spots of exfoliation to outer edges of painting.
