Isidore Jules Bonheur
France
1827-1901
Titled "Le Grand Jockey," depicts a jockey on horse back looking off to his side. Bonheur began studying painting with his father before eventually attending the Ecole des Beaux Arts, abandoning painting by 1848 to pursue sculpting. Isidore went on to win medals at the Paris Salon, awarded the gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1889, and was given the Legion d' Honneur in 1895.

From the collection of a North Scituate, Rhode Island estate.
Signed "I. Bonheur" on base.
