English, 19th century, the stand later. Brass bound campaign mahogany writing box or lap desk, having a slanted writing surface, multiple compartments, and now on later stand with straight legs. Unmarked. Provenance: From a Private Collection, Highlands, North Carolina. Approx. h. 7.5", w. 18", d. 10.75" (case); overall h. on stand, 21.75".

Condition

Box does not close completely due to lock being engaged; key and cotter pin are not present; scattered stable cracks; wear and staining; case and frame are structurally sound.
