French, 18th century. Foliate carved fruitwood bureau de dame or ladies writing desk, having a fall front writing surface, the lid with a marquetry inlaid panel depicting the Holy (Spirit) Ghost, the interior fitted with drawers and concealed compartment, two-drawers to the front, and rising on slight cabriole legs. Unmarked. Provenance: From a Private Collection, Highlands, North Carolina; acquired from an estate chateau in Lyon, France.. Approx. h. 40.25", w. 40", d. 23".
