Description
Josef Steidl (Austrian, 19th/20th century), late 19th to early 20th century. Seven-piece majolica pottery shell-form dessert service, having polychrome decoration with sprays of grapes and peaches in relief, comprising six plates and a compote or tazza. Four plates with impressed maker's marks and "1498", the remainder of the plates with same pattern number, the tazza with "1494". Approx. h. 6", dia. 10.5" (tazza); dia. 8" (plate).
Condition
Firing and glaze imperfections with scattered spurs; crazing; one chip and area of repair to rim of tazza; no other apparent chips, cracks or restorations when examined under ultraviolet light.
