Description

American or English, 20th century. Pair of mahogany Gainsborough armchairs in the Georgian Chippendale taste, each having a curved back, patterned burnout velvet upholstery, foliate carving, and rising on cabriole legs with acanthus decorated feet. Unmarked. Approx. of one, h. 40", w. 29", d. 26.5"; seat h. 17.5".

Condition

Both structurally sound. Scattered scuffs and abrasions to legs and feet, commensurate with use. One chair with a few small losses to wood on knees---not distracting. Minor scuffing to arms. No apparent stains or odor to upholstery.
