Polychrome silk on homespun linen central rectangle with five rows of larger and smaller Alphabet and numbers over inscription reading: O let my soul on thee repose/And may sweet sleep mine eyelids close/Sleep that shall me more vigorous make/To serve my God when I awake/Blanch Welch/1819 with pastoral landscape with sheep and butterflies with vining flowers arching above, all with lovely flower basket with vining roses at bottom, sides with pineapples and top with grapes, leaves and vines, sight 16 x 20 1/2, matted and framed. Very similar example is shown on page 496 of The Girlhood Embroidery Book, Vol II. , Author Betty Ring, 1993, also is at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Provenavce : Descended through Blanch Welch's Baltimore family. 21 1/2 x 26 1/2" high. Condition VG.
