Johann Gottlieb Friedrich "Frederick" Pabst (1836-1904) was a German-American brewer. He met Philip Best, the owner of a small brewery, and the two went into business together. Pabst also married Best's daughter, Maria. He helped expand Best brewery and eventually converted it into a public company. Pabst ultimately became president of the corporation in 1873 and the name was changed to Pabst Brewing Company. Emil Schandein was vice president of the company, having also married one of Philip Best's daughters, Lisette. After Emil's sudden death in 1888, Lisette took over as vice president of the company, holding the position until 1894.
