Description

Rare Neil Armstrong Signed COSPAR XIII Conference First Day Cover, With 5 Other Signatures

Measuring 6" x 4.25", Leningrad, USSR, cancel dated May 28, 1970. A rare philatelic cover signed by Neil Armstrong, Vladislav Volkov (Soyuz 7, Soyuz 11), Yevgeny Khrunov (Soyuz 5), NASA engineer Richard W. Porter, Russian engineer Konstantin Bushuev, and Soviet space academic Georgy Petrov. The cover is decorated to commemorate the 13th Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) Conference. With faint toning and bold signatures. Very fine.

Neil Armstrong traveled to the COPAR XIII conference to present a talk and afterward traveled to Moscow to meet Premier Alexei Kosygin. While there, he was given a VIP tour of numerous Russian space-related sites. Armstrong was only the second U.S. astronaut to visit the Soviet Union (Frank Borman was first, in 1969). Shortly after 1970, Armstrong would cease signing first-day covers. He stopped giving autographs all together in 1993.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
