Item Details
Description
Vietnamese 18th C. Nguyen Dynasty Hand Forged Imperial Bronze Censor W/Incised Gold Leaf Details & Maker's Mark From Hue Palace (From a Vietnamese Royal Family) - This magnificent, hand forged bronze censor was preserved at Presbytery Hall in the Imperial Palace of Hue. This is truly a museum piece, and the attention to detail is that of a master's. The censor is made of black bronze with copper and silver, and is elaborately decorated with ornated incised gold leaf details. The piece has side mounted dragon handles grasping flaming pearls, an imperial dragon finial top surrounded by incised fu lion, lotus and dragon motifs and a perimeter of key fret details. The body of the censor is carved with the palanquinin procession, which welcomes the Gods for a prosperous country. The piece is then finished with unique legs with turtles at the base, with the head of a dragon and phoenix legs. The censor has a maker's mark on the bottom of the piece, and rests on a hand carved wood and gilt gold base with an imperial dragon motif. This is a true modern day treasure, and a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece of Vietnamese history. This piece has excellent investment potential, as it is thought by experts around the world and avid collectors that due to the rapid modernization of Vietnam, Vietnamese antiques will within the next ten years be more valuable than Chinese antiques. According to some of the most expert collectors in the world, what used to sell for hundreds are now selling for tens of thousands. This piece comes from the estate of a Vietnamese Royal Family (the family now lives in the United States, and wishes to remain private as they still have relatives living in Vietnam). Measurements: 44"H x 29"W, base-17"H x 29"W. Weighs: 152 kg. (335 lbs.)
