Historic Abraham Lincoln Reprint Image from the Original Untouched 1864 Photograph Negative by Alexander Gardner
(1891) Photograph of Abraham Lincoln as President, Printed from the Untouched Negative taken in 1864 by Alexander Gardner, Satin Finish Reprint Signed, "C.(opyright) M. P. Rice - Wash. DC.", Framed, Pedigree to U.S. Senator Royal Copeland (NY), Choice Near Mint.
HistoricReprint Signed by hand on the lower right by Moses P. Rice made from the original untouched photograph negative taken by Alexander Gardner in 1864, measures about 8.5" x 11" (by sight), nicely matted and framed to fully 14.5" x 17.75", no glass. Once owned by U.S. Senator Royal Copeland from New York, 1923-1938. Two typed informational and pedigree related labels are on frames reverse side. They read, in full:
1. "United States Senate / Memorandum / Legend appearing on the front of the picture: / Copyright 1891 by M.P. Rice, 1203 F Street N.W., Washington, D.C. / Abraham Lincoln / From the only original unretouched negative made in 1864 at the time he commissioned General U.S. Grant Lieut. General of all the Armies of the Republic. It was suggested that this negative with that of General U.S. Grant be made in commemoration of that event."
2. Second label reads: "United States Senate / Memorandum / Sept. 13, 1968 / Mr. Richter: / This print of President Lincoln was hung on the wall behind Senator Copeland's desk in his office in the United States Senate Office Building for the full period that he was a U.S. Senator, circa 1924-1938, and I have the distinct recollection that this was one of his prize possessions in his office. / Louis J. Camuti".
*Its original 1891 copyright label, located below, is also included. Scarce, being actually Hand-Signed in the print and not a photo reproduced image signature.
