1826-Dated, Scarce Original Stipple and Line Engraving of President John Q. Adams by Thomas Gimbrede (1781-1832), Professor of Drawing at West Point, Military Academy, published by Ridley Printer, N.Y., Very Fine.
Original 1826 Engraving of President John Quincy Adams, measures about 14" x 18" sheet (about 46 x 34.5cm). Printed text at bottom reads: "T. Gimbrede, Professor of Drawing at West Point, Del. & Sculp. Copyright Secured According to Act of Congress, 1826 John Q. Adams. President of the United States Respectfully Dedicated by the Author to Col. S. Thayer, Supr.t U.S. Military Academy. Ridley Printer N.Y."
This Print shows John Quincy Adams, three-quarter length portrait, standing, facing slightly left, with a short pillar pedestal in the foreground, on which rests a book and paper, and a chair labeled "U.S." with a Heraldic American Eagle bearing a striped Shield in the background. Also with an emblem at center of the title portion at bottom, with an American Eagle, within a circle of stars, with its wings spread and bearing a device labeled "Nunc Sidera Ducit". Well printed on fine period wove paper with sharp dark contrast, having several small prior mounting pieces on the blank reverse side and there are a couple deft sealed splits to the margin corners, the upper right restored.
