England's King George III Broadside Death Notice Imprint
January 30, 1820, Broadside Style Printed Death Notice of King George III, Printed in "The London Gazette EXTRAORDINARY," Printed by Robert George Clarke, England, Very Fine.
"The London Gazette EXTRAORDINARY," Number 17558 having the front page of this 11.25" x 7.25" periodical framed to an overall size of 12.75" x 8.75". It features an official announcement of the passing of George III of England, bounded by thick black bands. The article reads: "Whitehall January 30, 1820. A letter and enclosure, of which the follow are copies, have been this morning received from His Royal Highness the Duke of York by the Lord Viscount Sidmouth, one of His late Majesty's Principle Secretaries of State."
The reprinted letter reads: "Windsor, January 29, 1820. My Lord, It becomes my painful duty to acquaint your lordship, that it has pleased Almighty God to take unto himself the King, my Beloved Father, and Our Most Gracious and Excellent Sovereign. - He expired at thirty-five past eight o'clock P.M. I inclose the Certificate of all the Physicians in attendance at this melancholy period. I am, My Lord, ever Your's most sincerely, FREDERICK (Signed in print) The Right Honourable Viscount, Sidmouth."
Print reads: "Windsor-Castle, January 29, 1820. It has pleased the Almighty to release His Majesty from all further suffering. His Majesty expired, without pain, at thirty-five minutes past eight o'clock this evening. (Signed in print) HENRY HALFORD, M. BAILLIE, W. HEBERDEN, ROBT. WILLIS, DAVID DUNDAS, For His Royal Highness The Duke Of York."
There is an impressive, excellent woodcut image at the top of the page with Coat of Arms surrounded on all four margins with a massive thick black printed mourning border.
